Mrs. Garton had gone to Alta for the weekend to visit relatives who were ill and when Mr. Garton failed to answer the telephone relatives broke into his home and found that he had been dead for several hours. Coroner J .J .Taylor was called and said death was apparently due to a heart condition. Mr. Garton, 66, was a pioneer of this community. He was born and raised on the farm northeast of Albert City now occupied by his son George and family. Mr. and Mrs. Garton lived on the home farm until a year ago when they retired and moved into their present home in Albert City. He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters. Funeral services were held from the McKee Funeral Home at Laurens on Wednesday afternoon. Complete obituary will be published next week. ______________________________________________________ Albert City Appeal March 15, 1945 (Front page) Pioneer Laid To Rest Wednesday Funeral services were held at the McKee Funeral home at Laurens on Wednesday afternoon of last week for Ross A. Garton, a pioneer of this community. Misses Ruby Edwards and Emma Wolf had charge of the services and burial was in the Marathon cemetery. Pallbearers were Earnest Gustafson, Waldemar Peterson, Chris Larson, Alfred Larson, Oscar Bergling, and Philip Danielson. Ross A. Garton, son of George A. and Ella A. Garton was born on July 28,1879 and passed away at his home in Albert City on Sunday morning, March 4, 1945, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 4 days. He was married to Effie L. Nelson of Laurens, on October 30th, 1901, and to this union were born four children, Mrs. Maude Arhens of Boone, Mrs. Madge Hirsch of Mitchellville, Mrs. Ella Swanberg and George Garton of Marathon. His parents and two brothers proceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Effie, his three daughters, one son, 17 grandchildren, one brother Frank of Marathon and a number of other relatives and friends $27.00 was given in his Memory by relatives and friends to the Blood Plasma Fund, and $5.00 by the freshmen class of which a granddaughter, Elaine Garton is a member. $7.50 was also given to the Red Cross in his memory.
