Description	:	From the "History Of Hall County" page 485 Roy E. Evans, 2nd class seaman was born in Menola, Iowa on September 2, 1893. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at Grand Island, Nebraska on May 6, 1918. He took training at Great Lakes, IL and was then sent to Pittsburg, Pa. Then he was sent to Halifax, Nova Scotia with a detail of men and was sent to England to help man Destroyers. He was assigned to the US Shaw - DD-68, a torpedo destroyer on June 26, 1918. He was on patrol duty until the... Read More	From the "History Of Hall County" page 485 Roy E. Evans, 2nd class seaman was born in Menola, Iowa on September 2, 1893. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at Grand Island, Nebraska on May 6, 1918. He took training at Great Lakes, IL and was then sent to Pittsburg, Pa. Then he was sent to Halifax, Nova Scotia with a detail of men and was sent to England to help man Destroyers. He was assigned to the US Shaw - DD-68, a torpedo destroyer on June 26, 1918. He was on patrol duty until the sinking of the Shaw on October 15, 1918, when it was cut in two by a British transport. Most of the crew was saved; he was picked up and landed at Queenstown, Ireland, and was in the hospital for he was burned in fighting the fire on the Shaw. He is the son of Charles D. and Cora M.
