October 30, 2005 ******** Fremont Tribune; November 2, 2007 Ruby Irene (Pittsenbarger) Donahue, 92, of Tabor, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at her daughter’s home near Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born Sept. 15, 1915, near Barnard, Nodaway County Missouri, the daughter of Robert Abraham Pittsenbarger and Lela Mae (Jackson) Pittsenbarger. Ruby attended country school in rural Nodaway County Missouri through the eighth grade. She then attended Maryville High School while living with her sister, Lora Belle, in Maryville, Mo., where she graduated in 1934. Following high school graduation, Ruby attended a business college in Maryville. She worked at the Power and Light Company in Maryville. Ruby married Charles Alfred Donahue on June 8, 1940, in Maryville. To this union 10 children were born. Ruby and Charles lived and farmed together in rural Missouri as well as Taylor, Fremont and Mills counties in Iowa. In addition to working on the farm, Ruby also worked at Henry Fields Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa. Following Charles’ death in 1973, Ruby moved to Tabor where she resided until her death. In Tabor, Ruby had a long career as a baby sitter and is warmly remembered as “Grandma Ruby” by many in the community. Ruby served as a Cub Scout den leader. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting items for her family, growing flowers and preparing food for family gatherings. She will especially be remembered for providing a listening ear, a place at the table and an open home for her extended family and their friends. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Survivors include: nine children, Ed, Carolyn, Gene, Marilyn, Mary Alice, Cecelia, Raymon, Judy and Rita; a sister, Mary; daughter-in-law, Sandy; 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert A. Pittsenbarger Jr.; sister, Lora Belle Trullinger; husband, Charles A. Donahue; and son, Alfred D. Donahue.
