Read More	Ruby Maria (Schonewise) Claassen, 91 March 27, 1921 ~ September 26, 2012 Ruby was born on March 27, 1921, at Adams. to John and Magna (Christensen) Schonewise. She was a 1938 graduate of Adams High School, and attended Peru State Teachers College in Peru. Ruby then taught at a rural, one room school near Adams for three years. Ruby and Paul G. Claassen were married on May 30, 1941, in Beatrice, Nebraska, and lived on a farm west of Beatrice until they moved into Beatrice in 1976. She was a member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church in Beatrice where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women's Missionary Society (WMS), and a couples' prayer group; an Extension Club; volunteered at the Beatrice Community Hospital Auxiliary with a major role in the beginning of the hospital gift shop; 10,000 Villages in Lincoln and through the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)in Akron, Penn., and the children's home in Renosa, Mexico. Paul and Ruby enjoyed entertaining. Their door was always open and the table had food on it. They loved to travel and had many happy days traveling around the United States in their fifth-wheel. Ruby enjoyed sewing and quilting, making at least six wedding dresses and quilting numerous quilts for family and friends. She was an avid reader, game player, and jigsaw and crossword puzzler. Ruby especially loved her family and extended family. They brought her great joy and pride. Ruby Maria (Schonewise) Claassen, 91, of Beatrice, passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Magna (Christensen) Schonewise; husband, Paul G. Claassen (2006); brothers, Charlie and John Schonewise; and sisters, Louise Kerns, Edith Lidolph, and Gladys Howe. Left with memories are her children: John D. Claassen and wife, Carol; Alan P. Claassen and wife, Janet; all of Beatrice; Rob D. Claassen and wife, Rosie, of Lawrence, KS.; Rhoda M. Frasier and husband, Robert, of Abilene, KS.; and Nathan W. Claassen and wife, Nancy, of Hickman, NE; grandchildren: Carrie Graap, Cheryl Claassen Hail, Chandra Claassen Soule', Elizabeth Claassen, David Claassen, Kathryn Davis, Monica Claassen, Carin Krusemark, Rebecca Claassen, Isaac Frasier, Megan Lovett, Aron Claassen, and Emily Claassen; step-grandchildren, Beth Schreiber and Daniel Schreiber; German exchange granddaughter, Carolin Gotz; great-grandchildren: Logan and Meredith Claassen-Wilson, Courtenay and Jacob Krusemark, Brylea Lovett, Ethan and Liam Graap, Kingston and Jagger Claassen Hail, Jonathan and Micah Claassen; step-great-grandchildren: Jack Donovan, Hunter Hail, Adiana Davis, and Vanessa and Lozano Lovett; sisters Inez Steinkamp and June Loseman; sisters-in-law: Edith Claassen, Hazel Schonewise, and Dorothy Schonewise; brother-in-law Don Claassen; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the Beatrice Mennonite Church in Beatrice with Reverend Brett Klingenberg conducting the funeral and offering words of comfort. Private family interment was held at the Mennonite Cemetery, rural Beatrice. A family prayer services was held at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. A memorial was been established to the MCC and the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation with Dick Goertzen and Ron Wiens in charge. Paul and my mother were 2nd cousins, and their family and ours had been friends since the early 1950's.
