Read More	Glasco Sun, Oct. 26, 1933, page 1: RUFUS GRAY Rufus Newton Gray son of John and Margaret Gray, was born at Charleston, Ill. on December 7, 1847 and departed this life on October 20, 1933 at his home in Glasco, Kan. being 85 years 10 months and 2 days at the time of his death. As a young man he came to Cloud County, Kansas and settled with his parents on a farm four miles north of Glasco. His life was closely associated with the development of Glasco and he was one of the men who helped build the Presbyterian church here. He served Cloud County as sheriff two terms and was on the police force of Concordia for a number of years. With the exception of four years which he lived in Beloit, Cloud County has been his home since he came to Kansas. On Christmas Day 1894 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Esther May (Blackledge) Davis, to which union were born two daughters, who survive him. The members of his family who survive him are his wife and daughters, Mrs. Margaret Ponton of Glasco, Mrs. Naomi Conner of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a step-son, Clarence Davis of Kansas City; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert McDonald Gray of Glasco; George Gray of Tacoma, Washington, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Clark of Clayton, New Mexico. A sister and a brother preceding him in death. Mr. Gray was a member of the Presbyterian church of Glasco, and was regular in attendance, as long as he could hear the services. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Concordia. Three years ago he was presented with a 50 year jewel by the Order. He had been in poor health for a number of years but never complained and continued his duties until a few days before his death. In his passing we lose one of the fine pioneers, who helped in the building of our community. Tho we buried his body in the ground his memory will always be cherished by those who knew him. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. E.L. Brown of Delphos and burial was made in the Glasco Cemetery. A male quartette of friends of the family sand three appropriate hymns. Nephews and grand-nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers and the Odd fellows of Concordia had charge of the burial.
