Ruth A. (Rollins) Whiteing (1910 - 1998)------------------------Ruth A. Whiteing was born at Denison, Iowa, May 5, 1910, the daughter of James Arthur and Katie Davis Rollins, Jr. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, September 25, 1910 at the United Methodist Church. She was raised in the Denison area and was graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1928. In 1932, Ruth was graduated from Buena Vista College with her Teachers Certificate and taught in rural schools.--------------------------On June l, 1935 Ruth was united in marriage to Robert Andrew Whiteing at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. To this union three children were born, Barbara, Donna and James. They made their homes on farms in Crawford County until moving to Denison in 1954.--------------------------Ruth went to teach in Manilla, Iowa, in 1958 staying there for two years. In 1960, she accepted a position in Denison with the Department of Human Services retiring after nine years of service. Ruth's retirement years were spent helping her son James with his greenhouse, as well as a volunteer for the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and delivering Meals on Wheels for Denison residents.-------------------------Ruth was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison where she was active in Melrose Circle, led prayer groups and taught Sunday School. Ruth had many hobbies which included fishing, camping, gardening and doing embroidery for her family.----------------------Ruth was transferred from the Manilla Manor to the Denison Care Center June 28, 1993 and it was there her death occurred Saturday, August 1, 1998. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 88 years, 2 months and 26 days.Including her parents and her husband, Robert, Ruth was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Rogers and one great-granddaughter.--------------------Those who remain to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara Barkowski and her husband, Russell of Climbing Hill, Iowa, Donna Borgeson of Vail, Iowa and James Whiteing and his wife, Jolene of Schleswig, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a half-brother, Wendell Rollins and his wife, Barbara of Fort Dodge, Iowa, other relatives and friends.------------------------- Read less
