Description	:	Sam Kmezich, age 82, of Hastings, Iowa, formerly of Council Bluffs, passed away June 15, 2017, in Stanton, Iowa. Sam was born September 22, 1934, in Council Bluffs, to the late Peter and Miliza (Plechas) Mesic. He married Sanda Thiles on July 3, 1954, in Omaha, Neb. They were blessed with four children, Nick, Pete, Chris and Tom. Sam was a long-time farmer south of Council Bluffs; worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 13 years and served on the Lewis Central School System School Board for 6 years. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary, John, Joe, Bob, Steve, Mike, Louise and Helen. Sam is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandy Kmezich, of Hastings; children, Nick (Jeanette) Kmezich, of Omaha, Pete (Mary Elizabeth) Kmezich, of Hastings, Chris (Rex) Knapp, of LeMars, Iowa, Tom Kmezich, of Brookfield, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Zora Stradley, of Tabor, Iowa, Ann Fatovich, of Council Bluffs, Alice Benscoter, of Tabor; brother, Eli Mesic, of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family, Monday, 5 to 6:30 p.m., at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Memorial service, Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Reverend Nancy Ross-Hullinger will officiate. A lunch will immediately follow in the parish hall. Inurnment in Neola Township Cemetery.
