Samuel Gaskill, aged eighty-five years, one month and one day, died Wednesday evening of this week at 7:20 at the home of his son, Samuel Gaskill in Southeast Villisca. Old age complications caused his death. He had been sick about a week. He had been visiting in Villisca since May 5 and during the last week of his life was so low his children were called to the bedside to be with I’m in his sickness. Before coming to Villisca he had been at Hammond, Indiana, for two months. Samuel Gaskill was born April 22, 1832, in Ross County, Ohio and lived there until 1856. In that year he was married to Miss Amanda Leach on September 8, 1856. Mr. and Mrs. Gaskill then started west to make their home. One year was spent in Illinois, a few years in Chillicothe, Missouri and several years in Decatur County, Iowa. In 1870 they came to this county and since that date the deceased had made his home here most of the time. mrs. Gaskill died February 27, 1888. Eight children survive the deceased. They are James Clayton Gaskill of Alta, Nebraska; Arthur Frank Gaskill of Fontanelle, Iowa; John Abernathy, Wade Lenzy, and Sam Gaskill of the community; Mrs. C. A. (Mary Florence) Shires of Chardon, Ohio; Mrs. C. T. (Anna) Kimbrough of Hammond, Illinois; and Mrs. L. G. (Nellie) Moore of Council Bluffs, Iowa. All the children except Mrs. Shires was with the deceased during a part of his last illness. other relatives who were here for the funeral were Millard Gaskill, a grandson of Fontanelle, Iowa; C. T. Kimbrough and two children, Lawrence and Mildred of Hammond, Illinois; Leslie Moore of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at two thirty at the son’s home in this city. The services were conducted by Rev. E. S. Menoher and burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Married Amanda Merlina Leach on Sept. 8, 1856 in Pickaway, Pickaway County, Ohio. The family would move to around Leon, Iowa and from there found their way to Villisca, Montgomery County, IA.
