Description	:	Atchison Daily Globe, October 24, 1904 Samuel McCracken for nearly thirty years a toll collector at the bridge and a man widely and favorably known in Atchison and by all Missouri people who do their trading here, died at 9:40 o'clock last night at his home at 200 North Sixth. Read More	Atchison Daily Globe, October 24, 1904 Samuel McCracken for nearly thirty years a toll collector at the bridge and a man widely and favorably known in Atchison and by all Missouri people who do their trading here, died at 9:40 o'clock last night at his home at 200 North Sixth. He had been in failing health for two years, and a year ago found it necessary to give up his position. Mr. McCracken was approaching his 79th year. He was born in Huntington, Iowa, and came to Atchison from Booneville, Mo. He came to work on the Missouri river bridge, at the time of its construction, and was in the employ of the American Bridge company. Upon the completion of the bridge he took the position of toll collector, and remained here. He was one of the gentlest of men, and all who knew him will remember him kindly. Mrs. McCracken survives him; also three daughters, Mrs. George Benning and Mrs. Frank Drake, of Atchison, and Mrs. P. S. Wiley, of Tulsa, Indian Territory. The funeral will occur at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and will be conducted by the Knights of Pythias at the home and by the Odd Fellows at the grave. [obit courtesy of Richard Blanton]
