Earlier transcriptions left out a few sentences. //rkt January 12, 2015 Fairfield Ledger - Weekly Aug. 24, 1904 Pg.7 Col. 3 & 4 Sixty-Six Years in Jefferson County. Mrs. Sarah E. Paramore died in the Mt. Pleasant hospital Wednesday (sic. Aug. 17, 1904), in the eighty-second year of her age. The body was brought to her old home in this city, where funeral services were held Thursday afternoon by Rev. C.S. McElhinny. Mrs. Paramore's residence in Fairfield had been practically continuous since 1838, and when she came here there were not half a dozen houses on the Fairfield town site. Her maiden name was Clinkenbeard, and she was born in Scott county Ind., April 23d, 1823. In 1831 she became a resident of Warren county, Ill., and came thence to Iowa. In February, 1841 she was married to Lemuel Clark, who died a few years later. They were the parents of five children, three of whom died in early life. Those who survive the parents are William J. Clark of this city and Lemuel Clark of Portland, Ore. Mrs. Clark was later married to David B. Paramore, with whom she lived happily until his death several years ago. Three children born of this marriage, only one of whom is now living, Frank Paramore of this city. When old age compelled her to give up the cares of housekeeping Mrs. Paramore made her home with her son, W. J. Clark, in this city. Mrs. Paramore was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in early life, but in 1858 became a member of the Presbyterian congregation of this city, and she was one of the oldest members in that church in Fairfield. Her husband for almost a generation was janitor for this organization and in this capacity was known to almost everybody in Fairfield as exemplary in his manner and conscientious in the discharge of his duties. Mrs. Paramore was a woman of many excellences. In the pioneer days, when friendships and kindly acts counted for so much, when self-sacrifice was a daily demand, Mrs. Paramore bravely and fully met all the duties which came to her. Her life was a plain and unassuming one, but she rose to every emergency of home-building and home-making. In the long cycle of time which she spent in this community she was loved and esteemed by those who came in contact with her for her devotion to her family and her generous kindness to those about her.
