Read More	The Malvern Leader (Malvern IA) 16 Jul 1896 Death of Grandma Hopper Miss S. E. Andrews was born in Dighton, Mass., in the year 1817. With her parents she moved to Kentucky and later to Monmouth, Ill., where she resided until she was married on April 1st, 1834 to Nathaniel Hopper, who for a number of years was a local Methodist preacher. Mr. Hopper was one of the early pioneers, crossing the plains twice by the noted “prairie schooner” route, from Illinois to California, early in the ’50’s. To Mr and Mrs Hopper were born thirteen children, eight of whom are living, four boys and four girls, all being present at her burial. She moved to Malvern about the year 1880, and died July 12, 1896. For 61 years she had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Her home in Illinois was the home of the pioneer M. E. Preachers. She was a loving mother, an affectionate friend and a devoted christian. The funeral services were held from the M. E. Church Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. C. W. Brewer, assisted by Revs. Morris and Brown, interment taking place at the Malvern cemetery. The floral decorations at the home, church and cemetery were beautiful and appropriate. Mrs.Hopper was a charter member of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of the M. E. Church and was always willing and anxious to serve her Master, and when the last call came she passed away peacefully and quietly to the just reward awaiting her in the golden city above, there to join the loved husband and children gone on before.
