Description	:	Sarah Jane Berry was the daughter of William C. and Mary (Ping) Berry. She was born on July 4, 1842 in Iowa. She married Henry A. Slater (Actual German name was Schlueter) on Feb. 21, 1861. Henry Slater died Dec. 31, 1873 leaving Sarah with sons William C., John H., Eddie and Elmer. She then married a George Smith on December 8, 1974. Sarah died on August 24, 1875. She is buried next to Henry Slater near the NW corner of the Stone Church. She then married a George Smith on December 8, 1974. Sarah died on August 24, 1875. She is buried next to Henry Slater near the NW corner of the Stone Church. The stones have been laid down and set in cement as Sarah's stone was broken at the bottom with the age at death missing from the stone. William C. Berry became from Des Moines County court records the Guardian of William C. Slater, John Slater, Eddie Slater and Elmer Slater after their mother died and it appeared that George Smith relinquished all claim to the Henry and Sarah farm land. William C. Slater became a blacksmith in Franklin Mills, Iowa. Elmer Slater seems to have traveled being that letters were from Lincoln, Nebraska, St. Joseph, Missouri and finally he was found with Sarah's sister, Martha Young in Oklahoma where he is buried in the Young family lot. The locations of the graves of the other children, William, John and Eddie are not presently known by me. The 2nd husband George Smith is likely buried in the area but not known at present.
