Wells, at five o'clock, Sunday evening, January 16tb, 1916, at the age of seventy one years, five months and nine days. Sarah J. Smith, daughter of C.N and Sarah Smith, was born in Des Moines county, Iowa, August 7th, 1844. She came to Eddyville with her parents in 1847, and has lived here the greater part of the time since, although living at Columbus, Kansas, for about eight years and with her daughter Mrs. Pearl Hall at Minneapolis, Minnesota, the greater part of the time the past two or three years, finally returning to Eddyville last January since which time she has been stopping with her daughter Mrs. Chas. Wells. To Mr. and Mrs. Crosson were born seven children, one dying In infancy. The surviving children are: Mrs. Pearl Hall, Flora, wife of Chas. Wells, Berde, wife of Phill K Scott, Fred N. Crosson, J.M. Crosson, Sidney P. Crosson. All the children reside at this place except Mrs. Hall, who has made her home at Minneapolis of late years, but has been in Eddyville for some time. The subject of our sketch is also survived by nineteen grand children, and one great-grandchild, and one brother and one sister C.S. Smith of Eddyville and Mrs. O.B. Scott of Blue Rock, Ohio. Her husband died in 18S8 while the family were living at Columbus, Kansas. Mrs. Crosson united with the M. E. church eighteen years ago and died a consistent Christian. Her passing was quiet and peaceful and without a struggle. She had been gradually failing the past year, but was jolly up to the time she lost consciousness thirty-six hours before her death. Mrs. Crosson had lived in Eddyville the greater part of the time for the past sixty-nine years, she being about three years old when the family landed here. During that time she had endeared herself to our citizens, and her death is much regretted, and the utmost sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. The funeral was held a£ the M.E. church at two-thirty o'clock Tuesday afternoon. After words of comfort had been spoken by her pastor Rev. E.W.
