Newell, was born on a farm near Glasco, Kansas, on January 5, 1870, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. D.F. Sheffield, on April 16, 1945, at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 11 days. When a small child he moved with his parents to the Newell home one mile east of Glasco, where he lived until the death of his parents in 1912. Since then he has made his home with his sister, Fannie. Seth attended public schools in Glasco, and after graduation, he entered Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, where he graduated two years later. He then returned to his home in Glasco and for many years assisted his father with the farm work. At an early age he became a devoted member of the Methodist church and Sunday school, always serving in any way that he could. Through all the years his Christian faith was the strength of his life. Seth's kind and gentle disposition endeared him to all those who knew him and he was always unselfish and retiring in his manner, never putting himself first in any way. His willingness to cooperate in every possible way for the betterment of life and his devotion in the home, first of his parents and then of his sister, was unsurpassed. Since the death of Mr. Sheffield in 1920 he was a source of great comfort and a very close companion to his sister, never leaving her alone for any reason. Truly God has taken one of His co-workers for his final rest. He leaves to mourn his departure his sister, Mrs. D.F. Sheffield, and many nieces and nephews, besides many lifelong friends. Funeral services were held at the Glasco Methodist church, April 18, at 2:30 o'clock, the pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in Glasco cemetery.
