LANDON DIED LAST FRIDAY Mr Sidney 0. Landon Sr., one of the community's most highly regarded citizens, a retired waterman, died in the McCready Hospital here Friday morning of last week. He had been in ill health for several years. He was 78 years of age. Born here, he was the son of the late John Henry and Patience Evans Landon. For a great many years Sid Landon followed the water. He was an expert crabber, and conversant with all angles of the seafood business In later years he was engaged in net fishing, until a heart condition compelled him to confine his efforts to lighter work. A staunch Democrat, he was active in local politics for many years. He had been a member of Chesapeake Lodge No 147 of Masons for more than fifty years, and while his health permitted seldom missed a meeting, and for a time was an officer of the lodge. He was also a long time member of and active in the affairs of Mt Pleasant Methodist Church. Sid Landon was a good citizen a man with a big heart, and in his long life had performed many deeds of kindness which endeared him to everyone who knew him He was the kind of man for whom people had deep affection, kindly, courteous, helpful, and he enjoyed the highest esteem of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held in Mt Pleasant Methodist Church here on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Addison L. Smith. Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery, where Masonic rites were held at the graveside. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Melissa Ward Landon: a daughter, Mrs Edna Mae Dorsey; two sons, Thomas 0. Landon and Sidney 0. Landon, Jr., two sisters, Mrs Edna Daugherty and Mrs. Mina Ward: two brothers, Dewey Landon and Henry Landon; and five grandchildren, all of Crisfield.
