Simeon Oliver Everley was born near Morgantown, West Va., May 6, 1846, and died at the family residence in Glasco, Kans., September 2, 1912, aged 66 years, 3 months and 27 days. He had been ill 3 years and 9 months. On Christmas day 1872 he was joined in marriage to Martha Ann Halderman. To this union were born six sons and six daughters, all of whom are living and were present with the wife and mother at his bedside when his spirit took its flight. Mr. Everley was a student in the Morgantown State University and after two years was prevented by sickness from completing the course. He taught school, and later went to the coal fields of Pennsylvania and earned the means to come to Cloud county, Kansas, in 1874. He was a member of the militia in his home state and did duty in guarding bridges and other property as he was ordered. The deceased was twice elected to represent Cloud county in the state legislature and has filled other responsible positions with honor and fidelity. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at about twenty-one years of age, was a licensed preacher of the same, and among his happiest days were those in which he worked with his hands on laying the walls of the Bethel church. He was of a family of eleven children, four of whom preceded him over the river. While he had been an invalid for the past four years, his last severe illness was of four weeks duration, during which time he suffered extremely, excepting the last two days. The end came peacefully, and he fell asleep, and was gathered unto his fathers. Only a little while Of walking with weary feet, Patiently over the thorny way That leads to the golden street.
