Buckland Laura May, daughter of Martha and Simeon Oliver Everley, was born July 28, 1886, at Glasco, Kansas on the old homestead near Bethel, and departed this life at Concordia, Kansas, August 7, 1948, at the age of 62 years and 9 days. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Buckland November 4, 1903, who preceded her in death, March 25, 1939. To this union two sons were born, Glen of Glasco, Kansas and Dale of Woodston, Kansas. She united with the Methodist church at Bethel at an early age and was always a willing worker in the Master's cause as well as an angel of mercy in caring for the sick or where a helping hand was needed as long as her health permitted. She was confined to her bed almost four years and the skill of the doctors failed to improve her health. She read her Bible during her affliction and when she could no longer do so, asked her dear ones to read it to her. The enjoyment she received from singing the sacred songs and listening to them was her greatest pleasure. She leaves to mourn her death, her two sons, Glen and Dale; also four brothers, Golden Everley, Long Beach, Calif.; Howard Everely, Eskridge, Kans.; Loyal Everley, Herington, Kans.; and Marion Everley, Glasco, Kans.; and two sisters, Merl Grey of Monongahela, Pa.; and Opal McCollough, Glasco, Kans.; besides five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and other relatives and friends. Her parents, three sisters, and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, August 9, at Bethel church, the Rev. Clifford L. Moody officiating. Mr. Will Pilcher and Mr. Lester Pilcher, accompanied by Mrs. Bernice Harper sang "Sometime We'll Understand," "Looking This Way," and "We'll Never Say Goodbye." Casket bearers were Junior McCollough, Eddie Schneider, Orville Everley, Lawrence Everley, Paul Buckland, and Raymond Buckland. Serving as flower bearers were Mrs. Richard King and Mrs. Herman Bates. Interment was in Bethel cemetery, with Griffith Funeral Home of Glasco in charge. (Obit contributed by Cheryl White)
