Description	:	Solomon Chessell Harvey was the son of George Harvey and Mary White. He was born while his parents were pioneering in Kent Co., Ontario. His middle name refers to his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Chessell, who lived on the Isle of Wight, England. Solomon married Eliza Jane Jenner in 1853 at Raleigh Twp. in Kent Co., Ontario. The marriage was performed by Solomon's brother, the Methodist Rev. Edward White. His obit was printed in the "Chatham Daily Planet", Aug. 14th, 1900. Bailey, page 5: "Another of the old settlers of this section passed away in the 69th year of his age, on the 9th inst., after a lingering illness, in the person of Solomon Chessell Harvey. He was the second, one of twelve children of the late George and Mary Harvey, Middle Road, Raleigh, six only now remaining out of this numerous family. Solomon liked work and was full of vigor, muscle and endurance. Before the time of the mower and binder he thought nothing of taking his scythe and cutting his two acres of grass or cradling four acres of grain in a day, and in fact he was a hustler at all kinds of work on the farm. The deceased was Reform in politics and always recorded his vote. The Bible and good books were his cheif study for he was a good Methodists and follower of John Wesley. Before his hearing got so bad he was a prominent and useful man in the church, being a class leader and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Although of late years so deaf he could not hear a word of the sermon, he was always in his place Sabbath morning until unable to attend, the minister generally giving him an outline of what was going to be said. He leaves a wife and three children...to mourn his loss. His remains were followed to the Church, thence to the cemetery, by a large number of relatives and friends."
