Solon was born while the family of William and Mary Fearing owned a farm located one mile south of the town of Linwood, Kansas. He grew up across the Kansas River in Lawrence. Solon was born while the family of William and Mary Fearing owned a farm located one mile south of the town of Linwood, Kansas. He grew up across the Kansas River in Lawrence. While he was employed at the paper mill in Lawrence he met and married Lula Smith Miles, a widow with four children. Her first husband, Charlie Miles died while they lived in Denver, Colorado. In April of 1910 Solon and his new family were living in Brighton, Colorado where he worked for the city. Their son Sherman was born there. He was their only child and the only child of the five Fearing boys. In 1919 the family bought a farm west of Watonga in Blaine County, Oklahoma. Sherman attended Mt. Pleasant School located on the corner of the farm and then graduated from Watonga High School. Sherman joined the CCC program and worked at a camp at Manitou Springs, Colorado. In 1934 he married Blanche Ina Grant in Watonga, Oklahoma. They lived and farmed with his parents. Their first son Solon, named after his grandfather, was born at the farm west of Watonga. In 1945 Solon and Lula sold the farm in Oklahoma and bought one located two miles north of the town of Ordway, Colorado. The second son of Sherman and Blanche, William Rocky Ford Fearing, was born there on the farm just after a big snow storm. Rocky was named after his great grandfather, great uncle and the town of Rocky Ford, Colorado. After the death of his father in 1947 and the death of his mother in 1951, Sherman moved his family back to Blaine County, Oklahoma where he farmed until his death in 1976. ~OBIT: Solon Fearing, 60 yrs. old, died yesterday in Ordway, Colo. Funeral services will be held in Lawrence, the time to be announced later. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Fearing and one son, Sherman Fearing of Ordway, four step children and two grandsons, three brothers, Gar Fearing, Charles Fearing and Sherman Fearing of Lawrence, and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Harper and Mrs. Opal Brizendine of Lawrence, and Mrs. Emma Thomason of Seattle, Wash. ~BIO: by Solon Lewis Fearing October 10, 1995. My grandfather, Solon Sumner Fearing was born June 10, 1886 near Linwood, Kansas. He was one of 12 children born to William G. Fearing and Mary Caroline (Carter) Fearing. He was raised in Lawrence, Kansas where he worked at the paper mill. It was there that he met and married Lula (Smith) Miles. Later they moved to Brighton, Colorado, where my dad, Sherman Lewis Fearing was born. In 1919 they moved to Blaine County, Oklahoma where they engaged in farming. Sherman attended the Mt. Pleasant School nearby and graduated from Watonga High School. In 1934 he married Blanche Ina Grant at Watonga, Oklahoma and they farmed with his parents. Their first son, Solon Lewis Fearing was born at the farm west of Watonga. Both familes moved back to Colorado in 1946 settling at Ordway, where William Rocky Ford Fearing was born. There was two feet of snow on the ground at the time and neighbors cleared the road so the Doctor could get through. After his parents passed away, Sherman moved his family back to Blaine County, Oklahoma where he farmed until his death in 1976.
