Description	:	Sophia Ripke came to the US with her husband, Henry P. Ripke, and eldest son, Henry 3, in 1857. She lost a child, Carl Ripke, during the voyage. She and Henry have 5 more kids while living in Wisconsin. Then in 1870 they move to Iowa. Here Sophia Ripke has one last son, Frankie, who only lives 4 years. Sophia Ripke dies 8 years later of heart disease, in 1882, at about age 48. * * * Sudden Death of a Highly Esteemed Lady Buffalo Grove, Jan. 2, 1882--This community has sustained a very severe shock in the sudden death of Mrs. H. Ripke, which occurred New Year's morning, while apparently enjoying the best of health. On Sunday morning, Mr. Ripke awoke at 6 o'clock and remarked to his wife that he had slept very soundly during the night. She replied that she had not, but had been awakened from slumber several times. Mr. Ripke then arose and went to the kitchen to build a fire. While thus employed, he heard a strange noise in the room he had just left and hastening in found his wife dying. He dispatched a messenger in great haste for Mr. M. S. Durphy, who lives across the way, but the spirit had taken its flight from the earthly tenement before assistance could arrive. Mrs. Ripke was much respected in this community, and her bereaved husband and children will have the deepest sympathy of all who know them. The funeral services are to be held tomorrow, at 10 o'clock a.m. at the Baptist church. (Obit in the B.C.B. Jan. 6, 1882)
