I only noticed her name was on Peter's stone when I enlarged and lightened the photo while editing it for Find A Grave. What a find! I am so glad I took a closer look at my photo of Peter's stone so we know her place of burial. Death records were not kept in Defiance County before 1867. Her death is reported as Feb 1860 on the 1860 U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedule for Milford Township, Defiance County, Ohio. Her tombstone records her death as 30 Jan 1860 Even though her age at death is inscribed on her tombstone, I have not entered her "calculated" birth date on this memorial because of conflicting birth dates and death dates on records. Presenters at Genealogical conference workshops I have attended, warned that a very high percentage of these "age at death dates inscribed on tombstones" do not reflect the correct birth date. Apparently family members would give the tombstone carver the birth date; then he used a formula to calculate the yr-mo-da to be carved on the stone. Carvers did not all use the same formula; leap year was factored into some formulas and not others. I will let her descendants decide if they want to use this age at death to calculate her birth date. The date of birth and death are not what is most important - it is what happens in between those dates that makes a person's life important. Sophia's role as a mother to her nine known children and step mother to her six step children, was most certainly an important part of her life! Sophia was likely the only "mother" her youngest stepchildren remembered. Six of Peter and Sophia's nine known children are linked, those not linked are: Rachael Beerbower 1842–1858 (died age 16) Henry W. Beerbower 1848–1891 (more research needed) Wells Beerbower 1852–1853 (died as an infant)
