Description	:	Sr. Emma Hermesch, formerly known as Sister Lambertine, 85, died June 9, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Emma Augusta was born January 18, 1913, in Kelly, the daughter of Henry and Christina Fischer Hermesch. She joined the Benedictine Sisters in 1931 and made her monastic profession in 1932. She was a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and College and studied at San Diego College for Women. Read More	Sr. Emma Hermesch, formerly known as Sister Lambertine, 85, died June 9, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Emma Augusta was born January 18, 1913, in Kelly, the daughter of Henry and Christina Fischer Hermesch. She joined the Benedictine Sisters in 1931 and made her monastic profession in 1932. She was a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and College and studied at San Diego College for Women. She was a certified religion instructor for the diocese of Wichita and the archdiocese of Omaha and had served as a supervisor of correspondence courses for the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. For a number of years she taught in schools staffed by the Benedictine Sisters in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and California. In 1969 she began studies in practical nursing at Citrus College, Azusa, CA, and was graduated in 1970. She served as a nurse in California for two years and then returned to Atchison to serve in the Sisters' infirmary. In 1970 she returned to teaching for two years in Papillion, NE. She then retired to the monastery where she served in various interal ministries, including surpervision of the laundry and sewing, as long as her health permitted. Sister Emma is survived by one sister, Loretta Koch, Humboldt, NE, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. Mass of Christian burial was held June 15, 1998, Mount Saint Scholastica Chapel. Burial was in the Sisters' Cemetery.
