Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the home by Elder Samuel McMillen and the body was was interred in the Williams-Griffin cemetery in east Monroe township. considering the influenza situation in Wingate, the funeral was largely attended. November 22, 1859 Mr. Williams was married to Miss Ellen Elizabeth Griffin, the daughter of Mr. Jessie Griffin, and she died April 9, 1903. To them four sons and five daughters, all of whom survive, were born. They are Mesdames Ada Gathings, J. W. Bivens, J. B. Outen of Wingate, W. E. Hamilton and W. E. Sanders of Jonesboro, Messrs. J. Frank Williams of Monroe, W. Baxter Williams and Frontis Williams of Wingate and J. A. Williams of Waxhaw. Mr. Williams' second wife who before her marriage in 1912 was Mrs. Elizabeth Medlin, also survives. Mr. H. F. Williams is a brother and Mrs. John Q. Griffin a sister of the deceased. Mr. Williams was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and was intensely devoted to his religion. His energies and his means and his time he gave without stint to his family, his church, the schools; in fact, all public uses that were of a practical kind.
