Description	:	OBITUARY Died, at her home near this city, Dec. 5th, 1886, Susan P., wife or Robt. W. Rains, aged 69 years and 20 days. Deceased was married to R. W. Rains Nov. 15, 1842, in Scott county, Ky. Emigrated to Illinois in 1848, settling in Marshall county; after living in that state 32 years they moved to Iowa, settling near this city. She was the mother of 12 children, nine surviving her; five sons and two daughters attended her funeral. In early life she embraced the christian religion and united with the Baptist church. Rains Nov. 15, 1842, in Scott county, Ky. Emigrated to Illinois in 1848, settling in Marshall county; after living in that state 32 years they moved to Iowa, settling near this city. She was the mother of 12 children, nine surviving her; five sons and two daughters attended her funeral. In early life she embraced the christian religion and united with the Baptist church. For more than 50 years she has maintained an unblemished christian character, was noted for her hospitality, was a true and devoted wife, indulgent mother, kind neighbor, everybody's friend, an enemy to no one. We have known her from our boyhood, and knew her to be one of the purest and best of women. She has been a mother to the motherless and given shelter to the homeless. Her work is done, her [unreadable] are o'er. Her remains were followed to their resting place in Evergreen cemetery by a large number of her friends and neighbors. A short funeral service was held at her late home, and words of comfort and consolation were spoken by Rev. Jones, pastor of the Baptist church. It can be truly said of her: "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord; from henceforth, yea with the spirit, they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
