OBITUARY THE CHARITON PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa January 24, 1894 Susanna Foster was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, the eighth day of March, 1807 and died in Pleasant township, Lucas Co., Monday morning January 15, 1894, at 3 o'clock after a brief illness from LaGrippe which terminated in lung fever. The deceased was married to Louis (Lewis) Foster in 1824 in Bedford county, Pennsylvania. In 1848 they came to Jefferson county this state where they lived until 1853, when they removed to Lucas county. To these people were born thirteen children, six of them having preceded the mother to the realms above some years ago as has also the husband who departed this life the 9th day of June, 1889. Mrs. Foster was a woman of wonderful physical and mental powers which were preserved up to the time of her sickness. Her religious life was of the unusual length of seventy five years, she having identified herself with the Methodist Episcopal church in the year 1819 and this religion, by the weightier cares and deeper sorrows of riper years, blossomed into an ideal faith in her Saviour. She was a true mother in Israel whom her children are wont to rise up and call her "Blessed." The funeral services were held at the home of the oldest daughter, Mrs. Isabel Smith in English township, and were conducted by Rev. Armstrong of Russell, who preached from a selection of the Beatitudes, "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord," after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at Zion. The deceased leaves seven children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn with many loving friends, the departure of this saint.
