Description	:	Temperance was the daughter of Solomon Brown-(1780-1873) and Elizabeth Vernon-(1798-1876). She was the eldest of 7 children. Her siblings were: George, Allison, Julia Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Charles. On June 3, 1836, she married James Howe in Jackson County, Ohio. From this union were born 11 Children: Jefferson, Letetia, James Bodkin, Martin B, Lucinda Jane, Archibald, Sylvester, Sophia C, Charles Wilbert, Phoebe J, and Henry Massary. James was almost 20 years older than Temperance, so logic dictates that when he died, she would still be middle age. So it was, because when James died in in 1856, Temperance was only 38 years... James was almost 20 years older than Temperance, so logic dictates that when he died, she would still be middle age. So it was, because when James died in in 1856, Temperance was only 38 years old. Therefore on February 2, 1860, she married Francis Howe in Jackson County, Ohio. Some assume this was still James Howe so they have named him "James Francis Howe". But they were different spouses. Francis was born in 1810 in England. I don't know if Francis was related to the other Jackson County Howes; but it is assumed. Unfortunately, he died a couple years later in 1862. Then a year later, on May 13, 1863, Temperance was married a third time to William Hofer. There were no children from the other two marriages. Evidently William died by 1870, because by then Temperance was living alone in Jackson County with three of her youngest children, Sophia, Charles, and Henry. 1n 1880 she was living with her son James Bodkin (who was still divorced from his first wife and a year away from marrying his 2nd), and her three grandchildren from James' 1st marriage. She died in 1897.
