Mrs. Gerard was born December 1, 1866, being aged 66 years, 8 months and 5 days at her death. She had resided at Ohiowa and vicinity practically all her life and her old neighbors and friends received word of her death with profound sorrow. She was a serious minded woman, never having a carefree life. If cares didn't come, it was her philosophy of life to go meet them. She was the embodiment of Longfellow's words " Life is real, life is earnest." Having thus steeled herself for the trials of life, when the summons came for her departure, she was ready for her eternal rest. Her suffering was intense. She took to her bed Monday preceding death. The Sunday before she spent at the home of her brother John Seiber, where she showed signs of ill health. She suffered from a tumor and the last few days summer flu developed. Her children were all present at the funeral. Rose of Lincoln, who could not be located while her mother was ill was present. Her husband Albert Gerard preceded her in death. The funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday August 8, with Rev. R.R. Kreps officiating.
