His life journey began Feb. 1, 1918, in Hockley, Va., to the parents of Thomas Jefferson Chandler and Fanny Elizabeth Milby. He was a lifelong resident of King and Queen County and a member of Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired in 1996 as a building contractor-carpenter. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Ida Mae Gillen Chandler; a son, Francis E. Chandler; a daughter and her husband, Margaret and Larry Horsley, all of Shackelfords; five grandchildren and their spouses, Theresa and Steven Whittaker, Carl and Taryn Haden, Sherry Horsley, Larry Horsley and fiancée, Amanda Gillenwalters, Shannon and Chris Bertrand; four great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Makayla, Whit and Jaden; extended family, Angela Cates, Staephen Page, Duayne and Cathy Hoolapa. He is also survived by two brothers, Lafayette Chandler, Lawrence and Brenda Chandler, and a sister, Mary C. Milby. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, Va. Funeral service will be conducted in the sanctuary of Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. and concluding at the graveside. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Carla Stearns and the Rev. Isaac Addington. Memorials may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept., or Lower King & Queen Fire Dept., or Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund.
