Trowbridge, at his home in Blue Hill. Mr Trowbridge was taken ill during the Christmas holidays and had been bedridden ever since. All that medical science and loving hands could do for him had been done, but in spite of all ministration death came as a relief to this fine old gentleman at 10:26 a.m. Monday, February 3, 1930. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral services at the Christian church at 2 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, which were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wm. Nice, assisted by Mrs Nice and Rev. J.A. Lemming. A male quartet composed of Eustace Bean, Cecil Bean, Claud Price and Charles Phares, with Mrs Collins as pianist, of the Christian church at Inavale, sang beautifully "Abide With Me," and "When My Soul Is at Home, Over There" during the services. The remains were laid to rest in Blue Hill Cemetery. Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr A.C. Atwater, Miss Edythe Hintt, Mr W.T. Johnson, Mrs McCauley, Mrs Addie Martin and son Jotham, Mrs Ben Turner, Mr & Mrs Emery Marsh, Mrs May Stafford, all of Hastings; Mr & Mrs Wm. Nice of Ainsley; Mr & Mrs Fred Blackburn, Mr & Mrs Jotham Blackburn and Ralph Blackburn of Campbell; Mr Alba Mumpower, Mr William Sansom, Mr & Mrs Earl Bruce, Joe Gifford, Mr Fulmer and Mr Holstead of Wilcox. THOMAS LINSLEY TROWBRIDGE Born February 23, 1852 at Rutland, Illinois, being the son of Rev. and Mrs Allen Harvey Trowbridge. He was the eldest as well as the last surviving of the four children. When a lad he attended the district school of his native township, also the Rutland high school during the years 1868 70. He then attended the Christian Eureka College at Eureka, Illinois, graduating with the class of '72. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Burr in Ohio, and they moved to Blue Hill ten years later, where he has resided since, she preceding him in death in 1889. Mr Trowbridge was engaged in the grain business for several years after which time he continued actively in farming. He and Esther Virginia Martin were united in marriage November 2, 1892. Brother Trowbridge taught the West Side School of Eureka, Illinois during 1883 84. He was a charter member of this church being the last member of the group and has ever continued faithful and steadfast, having taught the adult Sunday School class for the past several years and being a continuous member of the official church board since its organization. He was also a member of the M.W.A. lodge. He proved to his associates that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness and self control for as said by Paul, "Against such there is no law either in Heaven or upon earth. He has ever striven to add to his firm Christian faith; virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, Godllness, brotherly kindness and love and charity for he was ever charitable nearly to a fault, trusting fully all men in all things. Thus has passed from our community a brother and a friend, to all who knew him, one who not only confessed Jesus Christ as his Savior and Son of God, but backed up his confession by a life of love and service. He was modest, meek, tenderhearted, loving and patient, a truly Christ follower willing to be read by all men by his actions. Paul said "For me to live is Christ, but for me to die is gain." We believe our friend's life was for Jesus Christ and his death to be Heaven's gain, even if our loss. Those surviving him are his wife, Mrs Ester V. Trowbridge, one nephew, Mr Edward T. Litchfield of Flanagan, Illinois, and one niece Mrs W.R. Brewster who was reared in their home. Thus ended on February 3, 1930, a life which was good and great in the sight of God at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 10 days and as the author Longfellow wrote: "Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime And departing leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time."
