Lacey Obituary Died Sept. 27, 1914 Published Oct. 10, 1914, Boone News Democrat LONG ILLNESS TAKES LACEY Prominent Business Man of This City Passes Away Tuesday Night. ILL FOR SEVERAL MONTHS Member of Tom's Clothing Company Since Its Oranization Several Years Ago. T. M. Lacey of the Tom's Clothing company, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lacey, in Dodge Township, nine miles northeast of this city, on Tuesday night at 11:40 o'clock. Death was due to heart trouble and complications and the deceased had been in poor health for several months. He had been troubled with rhematism for serveral years and this finally affected his heart. Last June he went to Chicago and consulted speialists who advised him to take absolute rest. He then returned to this city, arranged his business ffairs and went to the home of his parents north of the city and entered upon the treatment ordered by the specilalists. For a time his condiion seemed to improve but about ten weeks ago he was compelled to take to his bed and he gradulally gres weaker until death ensured. Shen the news was spread about the city Wednesday morning there was universal sorrow as few busness men fo the ciy had more friends than Tom Lacey. Many of his buiness and personal friends went to the family home to pay their respoects fot on whome everyone loved and respected. The funeral services will be held Friday morning from the Lacey home in Dodge Township and the remains brought to the city, where the funeral services will be held from the Church of the Sacred Heart at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. J.P. Barron, the pastor will celebrate the funeral mass and conduct the last rites. The remains will be laid to rest in the Catholic cemetary. The Knights of Columbus will attend the funeral in a body. Thomas Martin Lacey was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 10, 1875, and was almost thirty-nine years of age at the time of his death. In 1877 the Lacey family came to Iowa and settled on the homestead in Dodge Township where Mr. Lacey grew to young manhood. When eighteen years of age he came to Boone and for about a year was stenographer and office man for the old Evening Republican during the Kneedler regime. He then accepted a position witht he Fraternal Choppers of America, an insurance and fraternal orddr then located in this city. He advanced from one position to another and when the head camp was removed to Des Moines he went to the capital city and continued in their services of head clerk of the order. About eleven years ago he servered his connnection with the Fraternal order........... ======================================== Obituary Number two Thomas Martin Lacey 1875 - 1914 FUNERAL OF TOM LACEY Obsequies of Well Know n Business Man at Sacred Heart Church Friday Morning. Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock in the Church of the Sacred Heart, a requiem solemn high mass was celebrated for the eternal repose of the soul of T.M. Lacey, the Rev. Pastor J.P. Barron, celebrant, the Rev. J. Wuff, deacon and the Rev. J. Slattery, sub-deacon. At the termination of the mass Father Barron delivered a sermon, taking for his text the 53rd verse of Chapter XV, 1 Cor. "For this corruptible must put on incorruption; and this mortal must put on immortality." The music was furnished by the choir of the Sacred Heart church and Mr. John Ertz of this city sang a very beautiful solo, "Rest for the Weary." The concourse of friends and relatives that gathered for the last rites, spoke highly of his popularity among the people of Boone and Boone County. The pal bearers were Wm. Birmingham, M.F. Lyons, Ed Welsh, Geo. Fitzgerald, T.E. Fenton and J.S. Haliday. The knights of Columbus of which order Mr. Lacey had been financial secretary for years and a most active worker, attended the funeral in a body and escorted the remains to the Catholic cemetery, where the interment was made.
