Mr. Lacey Passed Away on June 17, 1922 after an Illness of Many Years Duration. Funeral Services Held Thursday. The last rites for the late James F. Lacey were held at the Church of the Sacred Heart in this city Tuesday morning, June 20. At 9:30 o'clock the Rev. James P. Barron celebrated requiem high mass. Internment was mad in the Catholic cemetery. The pall bearers were: John McNertney, August Mesdaph, Cleo Fitzgerald, John Lyons, Lawrence Garvey and Dennis Ivis. The deceased leaves to mourn his demise his wife and daughter, Marie, his mother Mrs. Johanna Lacey, three brothers, John, Patrick and Michael, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lindmark and Miss Kathryn Lacey all of Boone, and many other close relatives and friends. Native of Illinois. James F. Lacey was born at Anamosa, Illinois, June 5, 1872, to Thomas and Johanna Lacey. At a very early date he removed with his parents to a farm north of Boone where he spent his boyhood and attended school. He was a particularly apt student, manifesting a desire for a more complete education and during his young manhood he taught school for six years. He was then united in marriage to Kathryn Agnes Fitzgerald, November 28, 1899. Immediately after his marriage he and his wife removed to a farm in Harrison Township where he lived for eight years, after which the family came to Boone. , Shortly after coming to Boone, he engaged in the clothing business with his brother, Thomas, who preceded him about eight years in death. Suffered from Paralysis. It was about this time that Mr. Lacey's health started to fail him. He was stricken with a peculiar form of paralysis. This dreaded disease grew gradually worse and worse and for twelve years his suffering, although not apparent through any act of his, were extremely painful. His wife and family did all in their power to alleviate his condition but he steadily grew worse until it was necessary for him to got to St. Anthony's Home at Dubuque for care and treatment. It was here that the end came Saturday morning, June 17, 1922 at 4:00 a.m. Of Strong Character All who knew this man will attest to the strength of character and self abnegation that he manifested throughout his life; quiet, unassuming and always willing to help a friend in need he built up a circle of friends that was the envy of all who know him. Although his death came as a welcome relief to long years of suffering, his passing causes a distinct loss o the community and one n which all relatives and friends have the sympathy of everyone.
