Wilson, 80, of Edgar, well known former Nuckolls county (sic) farmer, died Tuesday evening about 7 o'clock at the home of his son, Wilbur Wilson, six and one-half miles northeast of Nelson. In failing health since March of this year. Mr. Wilson spent his last days in the home in which he lived for many years before moving to Edgar in 1940. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, September 16, 1948 ======================= Thomas Milton Wilson was born at Tarentum, Allegheny County, Penn, on October 24, 1867, and departed this life at the home of his son Wilbur near Nelson, Nebraska, on September 14, 1948 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days. When a young man he came to Nebraska and located with a sister, Mrs. W.S. Mumma, about 10 miles southeast of Dorchester. On January 11th, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Effie Howell, at Wilbur, Neb. To this union were born three sons, two of whom survive, and one son Floyd who passed away in November of 1945. Mrs. Wilson also departed this life September 21, 1915. After living on several farms southeast of Friend, Nebraska, they moved, in 1907, to Nuckolls county (sic) and located on a farm 6 1/2 miles northeast of Nelson, where Mr. Wilson made his home for 35 years. On August 9th, 1916, he married Mrs. Susan S. Gibson who also departed this life in October 1945. In 1942 they moved to Edgar, where he has since made his home. He had been in failing health for the last six months. In spite of medical science and good care, his condition gradually declined. He made an heroic fight against a complication of diseases. Mr. Wilson was high minded, of noble character, and high ideals. He retained his membership in the Church wherever he lived, and was a member of the Methodist Church in Nelson at the time of his death. He was a man of high integrity His word was as good as his bond; and made honesty an outstanding trait of his character. He was of a friendly disposition and with it made many friends who mourn his departure. His passing leaves vacant a prominent place which will be difficult to fill. He leaves in great sorrow his 2 sons, Wilbur and Russell of Nelson; one brother, W.J. Malarkey of Kingman, Arizona; one sister Mrs. Myra Mumma of Nelson. There remain also 5 stepchildren, Jim Childress of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Allie Bagley of Edgar, Mrs. Edna Fels of Suad Valley, Calif., Mrs. Myrtle Wehrman of Nelson, Mrs. Lillian Weidenkeller, Hastings, Nebr. He leaves behind also 5 grandchildren, other more distant relatives, and a host of old neighbors and friends. Funeral services were at 2:30 Friday in the Edgar Methodist church, with W.W. Hull in charge, assisted by Rev. Rayborn. Rev. H.W. Wagner of Friend read the obituary. Mrs. Wayne Hunter sang, accompanied by Mrs. Justine Merrill. The pallbearers were M.F. Grossman, Barney Kollman, Roy Cline, Alfred Bures, Fred Epkes and W.D. Smith. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery. --------------- Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Merle Heinzman, Clark Heinzman, and Mrs. Alice Johnson, all of Friend; Mrs. Nellie Thomas, Sheridan, Wyo.; Mrs. Lillian Weidenkeller and son Jack and Mrs. Herschel Underwood, Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. John Davidson, Hardy; Mr. and Mrs Burdette Nelson, Shickley; and Mr. and Mrs. Millard Ray, Superior.
