Thomas Sedivy was born July 21, 1869, at Spillville, Iowa. Ten years later his parents migrated to North Dakota, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Mary Vakoch, February 11, 1896, to which union three children were born, all of whom survive him and were with him at the time of his death. The family located at Hingham in the spring of 1913, at which time Mr. Sedivy started a small grocery store, to be later known as the Chicago Store, which enterprise, despite the adverse years, has become one of the hi-line's most popular mercantile establishments. During the past 21 years, as a member of the business fraternity of this community, Mr. Sedivy has always given his loyal support to all movements beneficial to the community. He served on the city council as alderman of the first ward for a number of terms and was an active member to the church of his chosen faith. He was a devoted husband and father and cherished his home above all things. His high standard of business ethics has won a host of friends who feel that this community has suffered a distinct loss by his passing. His health began to fail in 1921 and since then he has been a patient sufferer from diabetes, the cause of his death at the age of 65 years and 15 days. He is survived by his wife, one son, Vincent; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Sorenson and Mrs. Emil Kocar, all of Hingham. Also by one brother, Joseph E., preceded in death by three brothers James, Frank, and John, all of North Dakota. The entire community shares in the sorrow that has visited the home of the late Thomas Sedivy.
