Read More	LIBERTY COUNTY TIMES, Chester, MT, May 3, 2000 ROSE MARIE KOCAR Rose Marie (Sedivy) Kocar, age 95, died Wednesday morning April 26, 2000, of heart failure at the Providence Alaska Medical Center. She was spending the winter with her daughter and son-in-law in Anchorage, Alaska, at the time of her illness. Rose was born March 4, 1905, at Grafton, North Dakota, Walsh County. She was the youngest of three children born to Thomas and Mary (Vakoch) Sedivy. In 1913 the Sedivys came by train to Hingham where her father started "The Chicago Store" to serve the homesteaders and settlers in the new community on the plains of Montana. Rose completed her education at Hingham; she was proud to be one of four students in the very first graduating class of Hingham High School in 1924. During her school years and after graduation, she helped her father, who was ill with diabetes, run the store. It was a general merchandise store which carried groceries, meat, dry goods, drugs, clothing, hardware, dishes, shoes, and a Root Beer fountain. Rose did the ordering, kept the books, displayed the merchandise, cut the meat, visited with the customers, and completed any other details that made "The Chicago Store" a successful and well-known business on the Hi-line. Rose married Emil Kocar at Hingham on October 10, 1933. They honeymooned at the Chicago World's Fair. The Kocars made their home in the original residence attached to the store and began raising two daughters. Unfortunately, Emil died from acute appendicitis in 1940. Rose continued to operate the store, while raising her children and supporting her mother and an uncle for several years. She never remarried, but worked hard to provide for her family and to see that her daughters both received college educations. Rose operated, expanded, and modernized the store in Hingham until 1957, then sold it. Soon after, she planned and built a home for herself. She has been a resident of Hingham for 87 years! After retiring, Rose enjoyed travel, spending several winters in Florida with her sister and nephew. She eventually traveled to all 50 states as well as Canada, the Bahamas, and Europe, including Czechoslovakia—the birth place of her mother and grandparents. She spent the last 10 winters with her daughter and family in Anchorage, and enjoyed trips during the last year to Michigan, Florida, Washington, and Idaho. Rose had many hobbies. She liked to crochet and made many afghans over the years. She collected bells and thimbles and also enjoyed her souvenir plates and lead crystal. She liked to work in her yard and garden when she was able. During her quiet hours at home she enjoyed writing and corresponding with friends. Rose liked television, especially current events and news programs. She loved to bake; she will be remembered for her delicious cookies, rolls, and kolaches (a special Bohemian bread). She remained interested in business affairs; in fact, she kept accurate records of her own financial matters and completed her own income tax forms until three years ago. A charter and lifelong member of Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, Rose served as church organist for 25+ years. Essentially a self-taught musician, she had only 6 piano lessons. In addition, she was a member of the church Altar Society, and had served as President of the group. Rose always found great comfort in her faith and lived her life to reflect her strong beliefs. Rose was preceded in death not only by her parents and husband, but also by her sister Mary Sorenson, her brother Vincent Sedivy, a special niece Mae Nickens, and a special nephew Edwin Sorenson. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Marcella Kocar of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and Mary Ann Brockway and husband Ron of Anchorage , Alaska; three grandchildren and spouses Tom and Kelley Brockway of Anchorage, Risa and Bobby Amparan of Anchorage, and Janine and George Raybe of Elk Grove, California; 7 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Mildred Sedivy of Hingham; nephews James and Joyce Sedivy of Swan Lake, and Vince Sedivy of Eureka; grand-niece Bonny Nickens of Spokane; and grand-nephew Lowell and Vicki Nickens of Portland, Oregon. Rose's family will remember her as especially kind-hearted and thoughtful. Her vocabulary included only kind and loving words. She possessed a desire and ability to empathize with and understand others. She was always independent, never wanting to be an imposition on anyone. She loved music, especially church and classical varieties, and she used her talent as an excellent pianist for her own enjoyment as well as means to express her faith. She kept up on current events, enjoyed politics, loved to read the local newspapers and was addicted to CNN. She took pride in her appearance and looked forward to new clothes and jewelry. She was a wonderful role model of a successful business woman (before it was fashionable), a loving mother who also served as a loving father, a counselor, confidant, advisor, and listener. She always encouraged her family to experience new horizons and to maintain a positive attitude. Vigil prayers were led by Father Joseph Diekhans at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2000, at Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Hingham. Iris White played many of Rose's favorite organ hymns and the congregation sang "Queen of the Holy Rosary," "To Jesus' Heart all Burning," and "Mother Dear, Oh Pray for Me." The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Joe at the church on Tuesday morning May 2, at 11:00 a.m. The Mass opened with a spedcial vocal tribute by granddaughter Janine Raybe entitled "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman." Mrs. White was organist and Marcus Jochim was vocalist. Altar servers were Dan and Terry Hybner and ushers were Jim Pester and Virgil Jurenka. Pallbearers were Tom Brockway, Robert Amparan, George Raybe, Lowell Nickens, Jerry Hybner, and Ed Schweitzer. Honorary bearers were Ron Brockway, Ron Groseclose, Matt Lipp, Noel Preeshl, Chris Richter, and all of her many friends who were kind and helpful to her during her 87 years in Hingham. Interment was at the Hingham Cemetery with arrangements by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester. A luncheon followed at the church.
