"Speck" McMahon, 85, of Cape Coral, FL, died Friday, December 19, 1997, at his home in Cape Coral. He was born April 23, 1912, in Beattie, the son of James T. and Vila M Weis McMahon. He graduated from Beattie High School in 1929, and attended Kanss State University. He received his Master's Degree in Science from Columbia University in New York, NY, and his PhD from Purdue University in 1959. He was a professor of Engineering at the University of Kansas. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1961 to work with the Federal Department of Transportation, where he retired in 1983. He and his wife moved to Cape Coral, FL. He served in World War II from 1942 to 1945. During the Normandy Invasion he served as a platoon leader with the rank of First Lieutenant. He received the Silver Star and a unit citation. He was a member of the Tau Beta Phi Honorary Engineering Fraternity at Kansas State University, the Kansas State Board of Engineering Examiners, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Citizens Advisory Committee of Lee County, FL, and the Cape Coral American Legion Post. Two sisters, Lois Connerly of Sacramento, CA, and Rosemary Sabalka of Lincoln, NE, survive him. A brother, Edwin McMahon, and a sister, Beatrice Rueger preceded him in death. Mass of Christian Burial was held on December 23, 1997 at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Beattie. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetry in Beattie with Francis J.
