Description	:	Velma Marie Bontrager Christner Yoder was born July 25, 1923, near Kalona. She was the daughter of Christopher P. and Viola F Hershberger Bontrager. Velma grew up in the community and was married to Cecil Christner on February 7, 1948 at East Union Mennonite Church. She later married Robert Yoder in the Kalona United Methodist Church on September 15, 1990. Velma was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, was member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. She was the daughter of Christopher P. and Viola F Hershberger Bontrager. Velma grew up in the community and was married to Cecil Christner on February 7, 1948 at East Union Mennonite Church. She later married Robert Yoder in the Kalona United Methodist Church on September 15, 1990. Velma was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, was member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. She was employed as a clerk at the Reif Family Center for many years, She also had been employed at Pepperidge Farms, did housekeeping and most recently worked at Parkview Manor in Wellman. Velma and Robert enjoyed watching and feeding birds in their yard and always enjoyed family and friends. Velma is survived by her husband, Robert of Wellman, two children and spouses, Shirley and Richard Harvey of Wellman and Robert and Karen Christner of Kalona; four step children; Lonnie and Teresa Yoder of Harrisburg, VA, Denny and Becky Yoder of Wellman, Mike and Donna Yoder of Cedar Rapids and Minnie and Tom Richardson of Oskaloosa. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Jon Harvey, Shawna Miller, Elisabeth Lewis, Casey Christner, Barry Christner, Shannon Roth, Nicole Yoder, Donovan Yoder, Bridgette Rew, Aaron Wilder, Grace Richardson and Brooke Richardson. Also surviving are six siblings and spouses; Marlyn and Gladene Bontrager of Hesston, KS, Helen Miller of Hesston, KS, Bette Messenger of Albany, OR, Clara Belle and Pete Schlabaugh of Washington, Carolyn Bontrager of Massillon, OH and Marjorie and Elmer Friesen of Newton, KS. Velma was preceded in death by her parents and husband Cecil Christner. A memorial in her honor for the Kalona Methodist Church or East Union Cemetery has been established.
