Description	:	CHRISTIANCY, VERN—Vern Christiancy, son of Walter C. and Sophia Knowles Christiancy, was born November 8, 1897, southeast of Geneva, Neb. Read More	CHRISTIANCY, VERN—Vern Christiancy, son of Walter C. and Sophia Knowles Christiancy, was born November 8, 1897, southeast of Geneva, Neb. He passed away at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva December 27, 1972, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 18 days. Vern attended rural school near the family home in Chelsea township. He was married October 29, 1922 to Sarah Mae Kyker, who preceded him in death June 21, 1957. To them were born a son and two daughters. Farming being their chosen occupation, their first home was three miles east of Geneva. In 1925, they moved one and one-half miles south of Strang and in 1953 they retired to their last home in Geneva. He had been a resident of the sunset Ret Home for almost three years. In his later years, Vern enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved flowers and in 1963 was awarded an American Tree Farm award for having established a wildlife reserve plot on his farm southwest of Strang. Also preceding him in death were his son, Keith, an infant daughter, Doris Ann, his parents and brothers, Richard, Clarence, Roy, Earl, Clair, Bert and Guy, and his sister, Mrs. Jake (Audrey) Gray. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Betty) Betka, her husband, two grandsons, Steven and Douglas Betka, all of Fairmont, and a sister, Mrs. Belva Saylor of Winnett, Mont. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 29, 1972, at the Farmer-Harris funeral home in Geneva. Lee Schlegel of the Salem Mennonite church officiated. The Salem Quartet sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Going Down the Valley.” Pallbearers were James Birky, Mervell Bumgarner, Clair Christiancy Jr., Leland DuBois, Harold Houck and Jack Lechtenberger.
