She was born in Soap Lake because her parents were there on a weekend trip and Vivian's mother went into labor early. Vivian grew up in Harrington, WA. Her family came from Iowa/Indiana. Centralia resident Vivian (Dwyer) Friend, 91, died Saturday, July 5, at Logan House Adult Home in Centralia. She was born June 10, 1912 in Soap Lake, WA to James and Margaret Dwyer. After graduation from Eastern Washington University she taught school for seven years. She moved to Olympia, WA and worked in the Dept. of Licensing. On June 3, 1939 she married Carroll John Friend. They lived in Centralia, Alaska and returning to Centralia had been a resident for over 50 years. She worked in local retail for several of those years. Both she and her husband were active in the formation of the Centralia Little League program. Vivian did volunteer work for the American Red Cross blood drive program and was herself a faithful donor to that cause. She was a regular volunteer at Providence Hospital following her husband's death in 1985. Her son Gregory C. Friend preceded her in death on June 1, 2001 as did her sister Edith Lorang in 1953 and her sister Bernadine Allen in 1989. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving on the parish council and an officer of St. Martha's Circle. She is survived by two daughters, Jandl Friend of Lakewood, WA and Jill Friend of Dayton, OH. Her son Jeff Friend lives in Centralia. Granddaughters Stacey and Tammy, great grandsons Josh and Colin, all of Ohio. Memorials may be donations to Assured Home Health Care and Hospice at 576-B W Main Street, Centralia. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, July 11 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centralia.
