"A good man gone," is what everyone said who had known Wesley Pearson, when they heard that he had died on Thursday, July 5th. His death occurred at his home in Aurum, after a sick spell, from which it was impossible for him to rally. His age was 78 years, 11 months and 6 days. Mr. Pearson was the father of a large family of nine children, only one of which had died. Wesley Pearson was born at Jaysville, Darke county, Ohio, July 30, 1844. He was married to Miss Arminta Kitchin August 29, 1867. To this union nine children was born, eight of which are living, Wm. Pearson and Roy Pearson of Stella, Nebr.; Mrs. Jos. Snurr, of Sumner, Nebr.; A. A. Pearson of Kamorado, Kansas; Chas. Pearson, of Elgin, Ore.; Lillie Pearson of Auburn, Nebr.; Miss Gertrude Pearson of Kansas city, Mo.; and Mrs. Geo. Mather of Kansas City, Kas., and one deceased child Mrs. C A. Harper. The deceased came to Nebraska in 1887. He lived near Auburn for a year, and then moved to Stella, where he resided until 1909, when he again made Auburn, his home, and he has resided ever since. The wife of the deceased preceded him March 9, 1911. ; He was a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted in Co. T. of the Second division; Ohio infantry. Funeral service were conducted at the 7th at Auburn, Saturday, July 7th at 1 p.m., at Stella, from the M.E. church at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. W. L. Elliott, pastor of the Avenue Methodist church of Auburn. Interment was had in the Stella cemetery. Though it was considered too great a hardship, on such a hot day, and for the ride to Stella, to ask the remaining Civil war veterans of Auburn to take part or to assemble for the funeral; yet John Taft, the Color bearer, faithful to his trust, was on hand, and insisted on bearing the flag, under which he and his fallen brothers had fought so faithfully in the days past and gone, to the grave where his comrade was laid to rest. Mrs. Pearson, with his gray hairs and his kindly disposition, was one you enjoyed meeting. He joined the Methodist church when a boy, and the influence of Christian training never failed him during life. The same virtues which characterized his daily living, he implanted in his children a devotion, love and care for those whom it was his privilege to nurture as a father, drew his children together with such strong family ties, that the word that father was failing, was sufficient to bring all the children together, thought scattered afar, and all were thus privileged to be present at the sad rites of the dear one, who had so many times sacrificed of his time, comfort and strength for their welfare. It is a great privilege to be permitted to grow old, but it is a blessing to the world when one grows old and yet remains young in spirit, sweet tempered and kindly disposed. The deceased was always thoughtful and considerate of others, and his smile, to those who knew him, was as a ray of sunshine. He will be missed by many, aside from his dear ones; and the sympathy of the public goes out in large measure to the children who have been bereft of a devoted father and an honorable citizen.
