Wesley was born November 3, 1926 in Fairfield to Samuel and Marie Burgus Shafer. He was a graduate of Fairfield High School in 1944. Wesley was united in marriage to Lenore "Nonie" Erps on June 18, 1950 at St John's Methodist Church in Davenport. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1947. Read More	Wesley James Shafer, age 89 of Fairfield died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Sunny Brook Living Care Center in Fairfield. Wesley was born November 3, 1926 in Fairfield to Samuel and Marie Burgus Shafer. He was a graduate of Fairfield High School in 1944. Wesley was united in marriage to Lenore "Nonie" Erps on June 18, 1950 at St John's Methodist Church in Davenport. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1947. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Parsons College in 1949. He was a life- long farmer and resident of Buchanan Township. Wesley was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the Mississippi Valley Farm Business Association. Wesley's accomplishments included, Master Farmers Award from Wallace Farmer Magazine in 1972, member of the Jefferson County Republican Central Committee over 20 years, received the Century Farm award in 2001 from Farm Bureau. He served on the REC/ Access Energy Board and Church council and taught Sunday school. He was an avid readers and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by, his parents, and 1 brother: Jacob "Jake" Shafer. Surviving family members include his wife, Lenore "Nonie" of Fairfield; 2 daughters: Sarah Beth and husband Tony Halsey of West Des Moines; Melissa Ann Shafer of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Pastor Gregory Friedrich officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or the Charity of the donors' choice. Obituary & photo published by Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
