Description	:	Delphos Republican July 15, 1927 Wesley Smyth Courtney, son of Robert Wesley and Lydia Courtney, was born near Maidsville, West Virginia, March 28th, 1859 and passed away at the home of his brother, S.D. Courtney, in Delphos, Kansas, July 10, 1927 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 12 days, he being the third one of the family to pass away in the last 16 months. Read More	Delphos Republican July 15, 1927 Wesley Smyth Courtney, son of Robert Wesley and Lydia Courtney, was born near Maidsville, West Virginia, March 28th, 1859 and passed away at the home of his brother, S.D. Courtney, in Delphos, Kansas, July 10, 1927 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 12 days, he being the third one of the family to pass away in the last 16 months. He was one of a family of 12 children, 9 of whom lived to grow to manhood and womanhood. One sister, Mrs. J.H. Pilcher, passed away in 1908. He had been living in California for several years and had just returned to Delphos, July 2nd. Mr. Courtney came to Kansas with his parents in 1872, living in the Bethel neighborhood. He was married in 1885, and to this union were born two children, George and Elsie. He farmed for a number of years and later worked at the blacksmith trade, of which he was among the best; his employers always being glad to hire him over again. He suffered intense pain for several hours before his death but patiently waited the end. His three sisters, Mrs. E.L. Bellows, Mrs. B.R. Moore, and Mrs. E.C. St. Clair and one brother, S.D., were at his bedside when the end came. One brother, W.H. Courtney not being present at the time. He leaves to mourn his loss three sisters, two brothers, one son, one daughter, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Memorial services were held for Mr. Courtney at Bethel Church Monday, July 11, at 10 o'clock a.m. conducted by L.E. Laybourn, assisted by Rev. Wm. Everley of Beloit, a nephew. Six nephews bore the casket to the tomb and two other nephews sang in the Pilcher Male Quartette. Burial in the Bethel Cemetery.
