OBITUARY: Wilbur Cass Wilbur David Cass, the son of Orsamus and Belle (Myers) Cass, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on February 20, 1904, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on October 27, 1989, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 7 days. OBITUARY: Wilbur Cass Wilbur David Cass, the son of Orsamus and Belle (Myers) Cass, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on February 20, 1904, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on October 27, 1989, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 7 days. He attended the Aurora Schools and graduated from high school in 1922. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1927. In 1929, he received a Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska. He taught Physics and Chemistry for 2 years in the Wahoo Schools. He then was principal of the high school at Ord for 5 years. He served as superintendent of the schools at Arcadia for 3 years and then became superintendent of the Sutton Schools. He left the Sutton Schools in 1941, to serve as a training supervisor at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Hastings. After a few years in Hastings he was transferred by the Navy Department to the Naval Base at Norfolk, Virginia, where he remained for the next 11 years. He was then transferred to Washington, D.C. where he assisted in developing training materials for the United States Navy, the NATO Countries and the O.A.S. Countries. On August 14, 1932 he was married to Elizabeth Easley of Sutton, Nebraska. He retired from the Navy Department in 1970, and he went to Venice, Florida to live until he suffered a stroke, and it became necessary for medical reason to return to Nebraska and he and Mrs. Cass lived in Grand Island. He entered the Hamilton Manor in Aurora 2 years ago and has lived there since. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Grand Island, and was a 32nd Degree Mason, affiliated with the lodge in Hastings. He was a Civil War buff and possessed quite an extensive library pertaining to that war. He was also a sports enthusiast and played tennis and golf until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Elizabeth of Grand Island; one brother Warren Cass of Aurora; 3 sisters, Helen Mekara, Emma Jane Mersch and Gwendolyn Penner all of Aurora; and nieces and nephews.
