Brassfield, son of Wiley D. and Elizabeth Brassfield, was born near Sargent Bluffs, Ia., on August 20, 1863, and departed this life at his home northeast of Glasco on February 19, 1937, age 73 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was the fourth of seven children, six sons and one daughter. As a young man he came to western Kansas and cast his lot with the settlers of the plains belt, locating in Sherman county, near Goodland. In the latter part of 1885, he came to Glasco, where he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and continued a membership until the end. He was united in marriage with Annie M. Brown October 27, 1887, in a double wedding ceremony, with her sister Margaret, and Mr. Harlow Barnum, conducted by the Rev. B.F. Rhodes. The following year he and his wife moved back to the place of his birth, where they resided until 1901, when they returned to Glasco where they have since maintained their residence. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and his demise marks the passing of the last milestone in the life's effort of this robust family of children, the offspring of sturdy pioneer parents of northwest Iowa. He is survived by his widow, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church, with Rev. C.D. Gambriell in charge. Interment was made in the Glasco cemetery. Lott & Stine were the funeral directors.
