Description	:	Wilhelm Conrad was the third son of a cooper, Johann Wilhelm, and his wife, Katharina Dorothea (Holzer) Heymann, and the younger brother of Johann George (known as the Hunt's Corners Grandfather). As was required, he attended school in his village for eight years, and at age 14, began to learn a trade. He decided to follow his father and chose cooperage. Read More	Wilhelm Conrad was the third son of a cooper, Johann Wilhelm, and his wife, Katharina Dorothea (Holzer) Heymann, and the younger brother of Johann George (known as the Hunt's Corners Grandfather). As was required, he attended school in his village for eight years, and at age 14, began to learn a trade. He decided to follow his father and chose cooperage. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, he was called for military service. He was excused from the standing army due to a mild skin disorder, but served a term in the militia. On October 4, 1829, he married Maria Margaretha Oppermann, and they lived in the Heymann homestead as Wilhelm Conrad's mother had passed away six years prior on July 30, 1823. They had ten children. In Kaltenholzhausen Wilhelm Conrad pursued the cooper's trade, served as the village shepard, and farmed on a small scale. After several years he was able to erect a building which housed his cooperage, his few cattle and feed. He did not own a horse, and life was hard as was the case for the common people at that time. When reforms allowed hunting rights to be purchased (instead of reserved for the ruling class), Whilhelm Conrad took advantage of the opportunity and bought hunting rights for several years. When his brother's family emigrated to the United States in 1848, Wilhelm Conrad and Maria Margaretha determined to do the same. First their sons, Wilhelm Anton and Wilhelm Charles, went in 1849, and the rest of the family emigrated in Spring, 1852. In the intervening years, Wilhelm Conrad had worked long hours making and selling products in his cooperage to build the family's savings. By fall, Wilhelm Conrad had purchased a 160 acre farm in Sherman Twp., Huron Co., Ohio. A good deal of the parcel was still wooded, and the family set about clearing it and transporting cord wood in four foot lengths to distilleries at Bellevue--a distance of nine miles. For each cord of wood they received $1.00 or $1.25. In time, Wilhelm Conrad and Maria purchased a second 160 acre parcel near Weaver's Corners, and in 1870, the 50 acre Weaver farm at the village. The first two farms where then sold to their sons. Weaver's Corners was a thriving village, and the Heymann home became a gathering spot for the older people of the area--a change they enjoyed after their more isolated farm life. Although Wilhelm Conrad was a member of the Evangelical State Church of Germany in Kaltenholzhausen, in America he and Maria became members and liberal supporters of the Hunt's Corners Reformed Church. Wilhelm Conrad's funeral service was held there, conducted by Rev. Loose in German and by Rev. A. H. Zecheil of Bellevue Reformed Church in English.
