Funeral services were held from the Mt. Etna M. E. church Friday, June 15th. Interment was made in Victoria cemetery. William Angus, the first born son of John and Jane Angus, was born in Ross-shire, Scotland, December 31, 1849. There by the side of his father who tended his sheep among the hills of north Scotland, he learned his love for the flocks and herds and all dumb animals that continued with him all his life. When yet a lad, his parents, braving the dangers of a two-weeks sail, and accepting the chance of gaining a home and its comforts in a new land, brought him with them to America and settled in Marshall county, Illinois, on a farm. A few years after, in 1869, William left his home in Illinois and came farther west to Iowa and to Mt. Etna, in the vicinity of which town he has lived ever since. Nine years later his father and mother, with his brothers and sisters joined him here and located on the farm north of Mt. Etna and just across the line in Cass County which is still the old home place and were Robert, Thomas, and Violet Angus, their children, live. Thus has gone from among us William Angus, a friend of all, loved and respected by all who knew him; a strong man, courageous and forthright, living simply and cleanly, tilling the soil and spreading the gospel of friendship and happiness among all who came in contact with him. He joined the Baptist church in Illinois when about 14 years of age. Arriving in Mt. Etna, he found no church of his faith but being in every respect a Christian and desirous of helping the cause of his Master wherever he might be, he, with Aunt Maggie, joined the Methodist church here in Mt. Etna where he has since held membership, laboring with his friends in the work he loved. His father and mother have long preceded him in death. His brothers, Alec and Adam, and his sisters, Maggie and Jane have also gone before and he leaves here to cherish his memory and to regret his departure, besides his nieces and nephews and a host of friends, his sisters: Mrs. Isabella Cupp, wife of James P. Cupp of Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Lizzie Bell, wife of W. D. Bell of Massena, Iowa, and Violet Angus of Massena, Iowa. And his brothers: Robert and Thomas of Massena, Iowa, James of British Columbia, and John of Corning, Iowa.
