Read More	The Plattsmouth Journal, August 16, 1909, Page 4: DEATH OF WILLIAM KROEHLER William Kroehler of Havelock died at 6:10 last evening from heart failure, believed to have been brought on by the excessive heat. Mr. Kroehler was a blacksmith's helper at the shops and had worked on Thursday, but laid off Friday because of the excessive heat. When on Thursday, but laid off Friday he said to a fellow workman that if he had ten minutes more to work he could not get through it. He did not go to work Friday, but was up and around the town during the day. At 1:30 Charles Peterson walked with him to a room over Oliver's pool hall, where Kroehler laid down on a bed. Friends went back to the room at 5:50 p. m. and found him gasping for breath. Twenty minutes later he was dead. Coroner Mathews held a conference with physicians at Havelock and came to the conclusin that no inquest was necessary. The body was left at Havelock at the home of a brother of the deceased, Fred Kroehler, former superintendent of the shops. William Kroehler was born and grew up at Plattsmouth. He had worked for the Burlington most of his life at various places on the system. After an absence from Havelock for some time he returned there about two months ago and has since been working in the shops. William Kroehler was a very fleshy man and the excessive heat had affected him for several days prior to his death. --- State Journal. The Plattsmouth Journal, August 19, 1909, Page 1: FUNERAL OF WILLIAM KROEHLER The funeral of the late William Kroehler was held in this city yesterday, the remains being brought to this city from Havelock on the train, arriving here at 1:12 p. m. The funeral was held directly from the depot to Oak Hill cemetery, a large attendance of friends being present at the station to pay a last mark of respect to the young man. The body was accompanied by a delegation of members of the Woodmen lodge of Havelock, who acted as pallbearers. Rev. A. A. Randall conducted the services at the cemetery, which were largely attended despite the intense heat. At the depot the local lodge of Eagles and Woodmen were present as an escort for the hearse, marching as far as Turner hall, where they parted ranks and stood at attention while the funeral cortege passed. This was determined on owing to the danger of heatstroke if the march was made further. There is a deep regret among the many friends of Mr. Kroehler over his untimely death. In his lifetime William Kroehler, of "Bill" Kroehler as they knew him, was one of the most genial of men. Generous to a fault, he had made himself universally liked by a wide circle of acquaintances and stood high in their estimation. His sudden death came as a great surprise to them, as he was generally considered an exceptionally healthy man. He was very fleshy, and to this fact the heat was undoubtedly due. Mr. Kroehler was born in this city and received his early education in the local schools. He entered the service of the Burlington in this city and for a number of years worked here, afterwards going to other points on the system and following his trade, that of a blacksmith. He was a member of the Woodmen and the Eagles and stood high in both lodges.
