Mr. Schrader was a man who found his greatest pleasure, deepest interests in his home, family. His religious life was not controlled by emotion, but by thotful consideration. He was fully prepared to meet the great unknown, feeling that indeed it was not entirely unknown thru faith he was able to look beyond, only leaving his loved ones cast a shadow over his leaving. Mr. Schrader has been in failing health since last February, not a well man for many years, altho cheerfully hiding from friends-neighbors his suffering. Schrader, son of Charles-Agusta[sic] Schrader, was born northeast of Hiawatha, Dec. 3, 1882, died at Sabetha hospital Sept. 27, 1931, aged 48 years, 9 months, 24 days. Mr. Schrader grew to manhood in Brown county. He was married to Miss Anna Evans, of Stella, Nebr., Feb. 9, 1910. He with his bride moved to his farm in Bates county, Mo., where they made their home. 4 years later they returned to their farm near Hiawatha where they have since lived. To this union were born 3 children; James, who died in infancy, William, Jr., Crystal Elizabeth, who, with the widow survive him. He also leaves to mourn his loss 3 brothers, Henry, O. H. Irwin; 3 sisters, Mrs. Mabel Mauslein, Mrs. Mina Warren, Miss Clara Schrader, several nieces, nephews, besides a large group of friends. Mr. Schrader was converted 8 years ago, has consistently lived a faithful christian life, has quietly found his way to the innermost warmth of divine love. His religion was not merely a matter of creed, profession, but it was a matter of daily life. He was a devoted companion, kind, indulgent father, loyal citizen, respected neighbor. He loved his home, found his greatest joy, pleasures in the association of the home. For years he has been a successful, prosperous farmer, cattlefancier. One of his chief interests has been the building up one of the splendid herds of hereford cattle in northeast Kansas. His funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, proceeding from the home to the First Baptist church of Hiawatha. Mr. Schrader's former pastor, Rev. A. E. Martin, now of Kansas City, Kans., who had baptized him, preached a sympathetic, kindly sermon, assisted by Rev. J. P. Blackledge. Interment followed at the Hiawatha cemetery. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Ralph Heatley, Mrs. J. P. Blackledge, Ben Jones, Conrad Rice, sang "Abide with Me," "We're Going Down the Valley," "Beautiful Isle," with Mrs. Arthur Allen at the organ, Mrs. Conrad Rice at the piano. The floral offering was generous, beautiful, showing the high esteem in which Mr. Schrader was held, brot sympathy, comfort to the bereaved ones. The body bearers were Thomas Brigham, George Barnes, Earl Cox, Hassen Derrick, Jacob Koelliker, Glen Jones. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Jennet Evans, Mrs. Robert Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Williams, of Stella, Nebr.; Dr. Isaac N. Morgan, of Tecumseh, Nebr.; Mrs. Louisa Gatz, Mr. and Mrs. David Gatz, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gatz, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gatz, William Gatz, Mr. and Mrs. William Yasall, daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Pointer, of Falls City. —The Hiawatha Daily World (Hiawatha, KS) Tue Oct 6, 1931, p.2.
