The Fairfield Daily Journal was published on Oct. 22, 1909 but stated "died yesterday", which would be the 21st. The Fairfield Ledger story published on October 27th listed the previous "Friday". Will use the inscription DOD of October 22, 1909 for this memorial but with those cautions/notes, that any family researchers may want to take into account. ------------- Husband of Mary Elizabeth Montgomery Corr, married April 30, 1865. -------------- Fairfield Daily Journal October 22, 1909 Pg. 3 Col. 4 WILLIAM CORR DIED William Corr died yesterday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock at his home on North B street after a lingering illness extended over a period of three years. Mr. Corr's affliction was cancer on the face and his deth has been hourly expected for the past two weeks. Last Saturday he became so bad he could not partake of any nourishment and laid in that condition until his death. Mr. Corr was an old soldier, having served his country during the civil war. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. The funeral services are held this afternoon at three o'clock at the home and were conducted by Rev. C. L. Tennant, pastor of the Methodist church, who talked for a short time when the members of George Strong Post No. 19 G.A.R. and old soldiers took charge of the remains and escorted them to Evergreen cemetery where they were laid to rest. Mrs. Corr is also quite ill with an affliction of the heart and much sympathy is felt for the family. -------------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday Oct. 27, 1909 Pg. 6 Col. 3 He Was Civil War Soldier William Corr died in this city Friday (sic. Thursday). He was sixty-nine years old, a native of Fayette county, Penn. He came to Van Buren county in 1854 and had been a resident of this county for more than a third of a century. His wife, formerly Elizabeth Montgomery, to whom he was married April 30th, 1865, and five children survive him. Mrs. S. Cornell, May and Samuel Corr reside in this city, John and Clarence Corr at New Boston, Ill. Mr. Corr was a soldier of the Civil war, a member of Company F. Fourteenth Iowa Infantry, and suffered all his life from disease incurred in the service of his country. The body was interred in this city Saturday afternoon. Rev. C. L. Tennant conducted the religious services and George Strong post, G.A.R., paid the last sad rites to its dead comrade.
