William Curtis, son of Joseph and Matilda Wharton, was born Sept. 29, 1877, in Peekskill, Westchester County, N. Y. Mr. Wharton had been in failing health for about three years but his death came unexpectedly Sunday morning, May 17, 1959. When he was fourteen months old, his mother, sister and he joined his father who had taken a homestead one and a half miles northeast of Loup City. As there was no railroad to Loup city, they came overland from Kearney by stagecoach. His father passed away in 1891, but the family remained on the homestead until 1900, when they purchased the hotel which later known as the Wharton Hotel. HE spent his entire life in Loup City. On August 2, 1903, he was united in marriage to Mary Dorothy Cynova and two daughters, Lena and Lottie were born to them. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Floyd Goodwin, two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and daughter, Mrs. William Noe.
