"Grandma Wharton," as she was widely known, was born in Hartford, Conn., June 2, 1865, the daughter of William and Matilda Harrison. At the time of her death in Loup City she was 84 years, three months and 10 days of age. At the time of her death in Loup City she was 84 years, three months and 10 days of age. She spent her early childhood in Peekskill, N. Y., moving to Nebraska with her mother and stepfather, Joseph Wharton, in 1878, when the family homesteaded near Loup City. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopalian church. She married Lyman Cassingham in 1881, and to this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband and by two children: Jasper, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Sophronia Simpson in 1942. Survivors include her son, Charles, of Denver; a brother, William of Loup City; four grandchildren, Margaret Simpson of Loup City, Raymond Wharton of Grand Island, Ronald Wharton of Kearney, Charlene Hickam of Denver; and two great-grandchildren. ***** Father was William Alfonso Harrison.
